چکیده

this study was perfomed on twenty five teeth which showed radiographic lesions( 6mm over 25 mm). the teeth were arranged in seven different groups and root canal therapy ( by warm gutta-percha technique) as surgical intervention were performed at various time intervals. in this investigation, histologic studies of the periapical tissues begin shortly after elimination of the root canal system with or without root  canal obturation. this healing demonstrated with a) replacement of granulation tissue by connective tissue, inflammatory cells diminish in number and densityb) fibroblastic activity and their differentiation of osteoblastc) osteoblastic activity forming osteoid and trabecular bone. the newly formed trabeculae extend from the periphery of the lesion to the center and root surfacesd) nonorganized periodontal ligament fibers return to their original orientation soon after the newly formed trabeculae reach the apical root surface and form lamina durainflammatory responses may continue simultaneously with periapical tissue regeneration and bone formation. chronic inflammatory cells seem to be present occasionally in marrow spaces of the newly formed bone. cellular activity and bone formation are demonstrated in the presence of the lining epithelium. this is seen between newly formed bone and apical root tip and might be suggestive of healing of the periapical cyst.

Diode laser assisted endodontic treatments in periapical lesions repair: case series

Background and Aim: Bacterial disinfection is considered as the primary etiology of pulpal and periapical lesions and as the result, adequate elimination of such infections is one of the purposes of root canal treatment; But since this purpose is impossible to achieve, reducing the bacterial load seems to be as a rational goal. Diode lasers have made their way into endodontics for better disinf...

Healing of Extensive Periapical Lesions by means of Conventional Endodontic treatment – a Report of Two Cases

Periapical lesions of endodontic origin may develop asymptomatically and become extensive. Treatment options to manage such lesions range from non-surgical root canal treatment and/or apical surgery to extraction. A high percentage of complete and partial healing of extensive perapical lesions following conventional endodontic therapy has been reported. The case reports in this article describe...

Periapical healing outcome following single visit endodontic treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

BACKGROUND The prevalence of apical periodontitis in diabetes mellitus patients is high. The altered immunity in diabetes affects the healing process of periapical tissue. Single visit endodontic treatment has shown to increase the periapical healing rate with better patient compliance. Hence the present study aims at evaluating the clinical and radiographic healing outcome of single visit endo...

Prevalence of Treponema spp. in endodontic retreatment-resistant periapical lesions.

This study investigated the presence of the Treponema species in longstanding endodontic retreatment-resistant lesions of teeth with apical periodontitis, the association of this species with clinical/radiographic features, and the association among the different target species. Microbial samples of apical lesions were collected from twenty-five adult patients referred to endodontic surgery aft...

Microbiota of periapical lesions refractory to endodontic therapy.

The periapical microbiota of 36 teeth with refractory apical periodontitis was investigated. None of the teeth had responded to conventional endodontic or long-term (> 6 months), calcium-hydroxide treatment. Eight patients had received antibiotics systemically. After anaerobic culture, a total of 148 microbial strains were detected among 67 microbial species. One of the 36 lesions was culture-n...
